Office Volunteers

Cal Phil uses volunteers at our office in Arcadia Monday to Friday 10am to 6pm. We are looking for adults with an excellent phone manner and good clerical skills. Tasks include but not limited to the following:

Collating and assembling mailings
Answering phones
Taking orders
Music library
Filing
Data entry

Cal Phil Festival on the Green Volunteer Opportunities

Cal Phil uses nearly 400 youth and adult volunteers during the Cal Phil Festival on the Green at Santa Anita Race Track. Volunteers must attend a mandatory orientation before volunteering for these concerts. Volunteers arrive at 4pm on the day of the concert in order to receive their job assignments. Please wear a white shirt with black pants or a skirt. Cal Phil Festival on the Green concerts are outdoors and occur rain or shine, so please dress accordingly. Dinner will be provided, and volunteers are dismissed at midnight.

Orientations are held at the California Philharmonic office, located at 400 S Baldwin Ave, #2160, Arcadia, CA 91007.

All volunteers must attend an orientation.

Internships Help Everyone

Volunteer Relations Assistant Internship

Seeking an intern to help in the coordination & execution of the Volunteer Relations Program. Assistant will be responsible for providing on-location event support, conduct orientations, help train Cal Phil volunteers, volunteer management, data entry, some general office work & other tasks as they come up. This is a position for someone with strong organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to take direction and work independently. Communication/presentation skills required. You will be working with Cal Phil Volunteer Relations Director and volunteers of all ages, so we are looking for an intern with exceptional people skills, initiative, who knows how to prioritize his/her time. Knowledge of MS office & Excel is highly valuable, but not necessary.

Assistant to General Manager Internship

The successful candidate will be able to take direction from General Manager in addition to having an eye for detail, ability to work under deadlines and have a willingness to learn. Intern will work closely with seasoned California Philharmonic General Manager and gain invaluable hands-on experience in event production for a well-established, non-profit organization. On-location event support will be required, intern will learn first-hand about sales, non-profit management, data entry, and will have clerical responsibilities. Knowledge of MS office & Excel is highly valuable, but not necessary. Again, we are looking for an intern who has great time management skills and can multi-task, with both a passion for music and learning the business side of event production.

Music Library Assistant Internship

Playing an integral role in the California Philharmonic, the Music Library Assistant will organize sheet music for the concert series, bowings, assist with music talent at rehearsals and concerts. Intern will work closely with Music Librarian and Cal Phil Music Director, Dr. Victor Vener. This is an excellent position for someone with outstanding verbal and collaborative skills. A large portion of this internship will take place at orchestral rehearsals and Festival On The Green concert series at the Santa Anita Race Track. Musical and backstage experience preferred, but not required.

Artist Management Assistant Internship

This position requires the intern to coordinate with various partners and businesses. You will be responsible for coordinating travel and hotel reservations for musical talent, as well as with catering services. You will also have the opportunity to assist backstage at rehearsals and concerts. We are looking for an energetic intern, with a willingness to learn who can multi-task and have the initiative (and etiquette) to support musical talent and stage managers. A large portion of this internship will take place at orchestral rehearsals and Festival On The Green concert series at the Santa Anita Race Track. Students majoring/minoring in Music Industry preferred, but not required.

Conducting Assistant Internships

NOTE: This position requires all candidates to be an undergraduate or grad student studying Music; specifically, but not limited to Conducting and/or Composition majors.

This intern will have the opportunity to work first-hand with Cal Phil Music Director, Dr. Victor Vener, and help to review scores, attend all rehearsals and concerts, and assist backstage as needed. A large portion of this internship will take place at orchestral rehearsals and Festival On The Green concert series at the Santa Anita Race Track.We have 3 positions available.

PLEASE NOTE: ALL the internship positions are located in Arcadia and concert series (for which interns will be required to attend) takes place on Saturdays at Santa Anita Race Track in Arcadia, California. Interns MUST be able to work ALL summer concerts. Schedules will be tailored to individual position requirements. These internships are unpaid. Interns that desire college-credit will be given college credit. All interns will receive a recommendation letter upon internship completion.
