Armen Anassian, violin
“Making magic with music”

If you heard violinist Armen Anassian appear as guest soloist with Cal Phil in 2002, you know what a treat you’re in for when he joins us at “Movie Magic” for a performance of film composer Erich Korngold’s Violin Concerto. Nor is Cal Phil the only orchestra in Southern California to be in awe of Armen’s artistry.  Ensembles with which he has appeared include the Glendale Symphony, the Pasadena Pops, the Riverside Philharmonic, the Burbank Symphony, the Antelope Valley Symphony, the Pacific Palisades Symphony and the Santa Clarita Symphony, where he currently serves as Concertmaster – a role he also holds with the Symphony in the Glen.

Armen has performed hundreds of concerts worldwide as well – in France, England, Belgium, Spain, Italy, Switzerland, China, India, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, Japan, Australia, Canada, Mexico, and throughout the United States. He performed the Khachaturian Violin Concerto in Armenia with the Armenian National Philharmonic – under the baton of his father, the composer and conductor Henrik Anassian – and, from 1994-98, followed in his father’s footsteps by serving as Conductor for the internationally renowned World Music artist Yanni. He has also served as Conductor and/or Concertmaster with such noted groups as the Hoboken Chamber Orchestra, Freiburg Chamber Orchestra, Heidelberg Chamber Orchestra, and the International Zelt Musik Orchestra.

Here, closer to home, Armen appears regularly as a violinist with the Los Angeles Opera. And if he’s not at the opera house, Armen just may be found on a sound stage or in the recording studio. The roster of film composers with whom he has worked is a veritable Who’s Who of Oscar nominees and winners – including John Williams, James Horner, Hans Zimmer, James Newton Howard, Alan Silvestry, Danny Elfman and John Debny, among many others.
